Frequent complaints about over-the-counter products causing dry, brittle hair and chemical damage spurred Dr. Marcy L. Street, M.D., a board-certified, Mayo Clinic trained dermatologist to develop Doctor's Approach Hair and Scalp Solution kit. After ten years of seeing patients and recommending over-the-counter remedies, Dr. Street also observed that products to control dandruff created additional problems of dull, dry, brittle hair. Such problems arose for people with all types of hair.

Creating solutions for her diverse patients came naturally for Dr. Street whose dermatology practice thrives in an university community that draws people from around the world. Caucasians, African Americans, Asians, Latinos, and patients from other ethnic groups seek treatment from Dr. Street. Product development posed a new challenge for Dr. Street, who usually focused her professional energy on skin cancer prevention, microscopic surgeries, laser, Botox, acne and hair loss treatments. Dr. Street sampled over-the-counter products to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of various formulations. After examining innumerable products, Dr. Street found nothing that met her standards. "One product needed more vitamins; another needed wheat protein added to the formula; others lacked adequate emollients." Over a two-year period, while seeing over 300 patients per month, Street created various test-formulations to devise prototype versions of Doctor's Approach skin and hair care products.

In a multicultural world, Dr. Street's multifunctional products provide benefits for consumers from all ethnic groups. Dr. Street maintains that patients are most concerned with universal problems.
